Teryl Zhao Tongxin (Violin)

Born and raised in Singapore, Teryl began learning the violin at age three and the piano at age five. She then took on violin as her principal instrument and studied under notable professors like Alexander Souptel, Luo Wei, Darin Varbanov in Singapore. She is currently a student at the Royal College of Music in London, under the study of Professor Chen Jiafeng. 

Before moving to the UK, she was the concertmaster of the Junior High and Senior High String Orchestra in National Junior College, and was the youngest appointed student to be given this position to date. Not only did she perform with the orchestra, but was also a highly sought-after chamber musician in school, playing for numerous events at many concert venues, such as the Esplanade Recital Studio, Esplanade Concourse, Esplanade Theatre and Victoria Concert Hall. Back in school, she was awarded the Aesthetics Excellence Award for her commitment and excellence in the arts. Teryl is currently a part of the Orchestra of the Music Makers (OMM), performing in the orchestra from time to time at the Esplanade Concert Hall. She has also participated in numerous masterclasses with renowned musicians, such as Loh Jun Hong in Singapore and Igor Yuzefovich in London.

Teryl has also performed many recitals for different events in venues across Singapore, with and without orchestra as a soloist. Aside from playing classical music, she also creates pop music arrangements for violin and chamber ensembles, as she performs them for shoots and various events. She is currently also pursuing a second study in composition at the Royal College of Music with Professor Deirdre Gribbin.
